This page contains frequently asked questions (FAQ) about our software.

Q What are the minimum system requirements to use Depreciation Calculator?
A - Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
- Pentium 4 running at 800 MHz or faster
- 512 MB of RAM (1GB or more recommended)
For companies with a large number of assets to depreciate, a faster processor and more RAM is recommended.
Q Has Depreciation Calculator been updated to accommodate the changes included in the Economic Stimulus Tax Act of 2008?
A Yes, Depreciation Calculator has been fully updated to incorporate the 2008 Economic Stimulus Tax Act changes that affect the calculation of depreciation.
Q How often is Depreciation Calculator updated, and what is the cost?
A Once a year we offer an update that incorporates any changes in the tax law affecting depreciation. The cost ranges from $100 to $175, depending upon the extent of the changes involved.
Q What is the cost of program support?
A Program support is conducted by email and fax only and is completely free for as long as you own the program. (In this way, we are able to keep the cost of our program very reasonable.)
Q Does Depreciation Calculator interface with any tax preparation software?
A No, it does not. However, the summary totals can be easily entered into most tax preparation packages from the Form 4562 that Depreciation Calculator prepares.
Q Does Depreciation Calculator import or convert asset information from any other depreciation programs? How about if I export my information to an Excel spreadsheet or an ASCII file?
A No to both questions. You must manually enter all asset data directly into Depreciation Calculator.
Q I have been keeping my depreciation schedules in an Excel spreadsheet. Can I import my Excel schedules into Depreciation Calculator?
A No. You must manually enter all asset data directly into Depreciation Calculator.
Q What is the maximum number of assets that Depreciation Calculator can handle?
A The number of assets that Depreciation Calculator can handle is limited by your computer's available hard disk space. Note that if you are going to use the program for a very large number of assets, you should run the program on a fast computer with a lot of random access memory (RAM).
Q

Does Depreciation Calculator generate a single report that shows the depreciation for the entire life of an asset?

A No it does not.
Q Can Depreciation Calculator be installed on a network?
A No. At the current time Depreciation Calculator is not network compatible. It can only be installed on a local hard drive to be used by one user at a time.
Q Does Depreciation Calculator automatically handle like-kind exchanges or partial dispositions?
A Depreciation Calculator handles simple trade-ins of one vehicle for another or one piece of equipment for another in accordance with the provisions of IRB 2004-14. However, the program does NOT handle complex Section 1031 like-kind exchanges, nor does it handle partial dispositions.
Q I entered a lot of asset data with the demo version. Will I have to re-enter this information after I purchase and install the full version of Depreciation Calculator?
A You will NOT have to re-enter anything you entered while using the demo version. It will be available to you once you install the full version of Depreciation Calculator. (You must install the full version on the same computer on which you installed the demo.)
